Volunteer options
 

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Coos County Family Health Services volunteer.
CCFHS has been providing health and social services to more than 15,000 patients in our
3 clinical sites. Over 30% of the CCFHS service area population lives in households with incomes
less than 200% of the federal poverty guidelines. We need your help--an hour or two of your
time each week could make a big difference in the lives of our patients, not to mention their
families.


Volunteer services help support CCFHS staff in providing comprehensive health care to the
community.  Through an organized program, volunteers participate in the following services:

Hats Off to Antiques
Event Hosting
Social Media Monitoring
Work on Capital Campaign for new clinic in Gorham
Handwriting thank you notes and notes on the Annual Letter Writing Campaign

Prenatal Care, Maternal and Infant Home Visiting
Collecting stories of young expecting mothers
Annually preparing knitted hats and mittens for newborns
Preparing baskets for new mothers

Medical Services
Helping with Patient Satisfaction Surveys (Semi-Annually)
Community Health Benefit Assessment (every 5 years)
Hosting the Neuro-Motor Clinic (3 times per year)
Helping patients fill out forms
Providing translation for language challenged people

Medical/Community Ed
Updating pamphlet racks, bulletin boards and waiting room educational material
Attending local health expos or other events representing the CCFHS Clinic and all of its services

Breast and Cervical Cancer Screenings
Running special campaigns to raise money for clinic

Mental Health
Providing food/refreshments for group therapy meetings

Family Planning, HIV, STD
Monitoring the “buzz” on social media about family planning and assisting in local outreach
Helping Community Educator at the presentations, setting up, handing out material and watching for interaction
Reviewing print material at all clinics to make sure it is up to date and appropriate

Oral Health
Attending elementary school classes with outreach coordinator to help set up, hand out material and coordinate the screenings
Putting packages of “give-aways” together for students and their families

WIC
Attending WIC clinics and assisting new clients complete paperwork, talking with them about challenges they face when maintaining good nutrition and exercise for themselves and their family
Sharing appropriate brochures and other materials with clients and helping read them or translate them

RESPONSE
Monitoring crisis phone line
Helping clean transitional housing before someone goes into space
Providing support through legal system
Attending high school and public classes given by staff to set up, hand out material and watch for interaction

Board Membership
Committee membership (Development, Finance, Governance, Quality Improvement, Personnel, Finance, and Building Committees)

Administration
Assisting with General Mailings and Record Management
