Our Program
Training physicians to become leaders who improve the health of their community
We are proud to introduce our newly ACGME – accredited Family Medicine Residency Program located in the heart of rural Northern New Hampshire. The White Mountains Medical Education Consortium (WMMEC) is a collaborative effort between Coos County Family Health Services, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and North Country Healthcare a regional healthcare provider composed of three critical access hospitals and a home health and hospice/palliative care agency. This innovative program is designed to address the unique healthcare needs of our region while training the next generation of family physicians. Rooted in a mission of service, access, and community engagement, our residency offers comprehensive training in a rural setting, preparing residents to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to local populations. The Family Medicine Residency Program is designed to train future physicians to become community leaders who will improve the health of their rural communities.
Mission and Values
Our mission includes training full-scope family medicine physicians who compassionately care for their patients with evidence-based, high quality and cost-effective care.
We promote equitable access to quality medical care for the medically underserved populations of northern New Hampshire.
The North Country of New Hampshire
The North Country of New Hampshire, is often referred to as the “Great North Woods.” It is the northernmost region of the state, encompassing Coös County and parts of northern Grafton County bordering Vermont and Quebec. The region is dominated by vast forests, mountains, rivers, and lakes, including portions of the White Mountains and the Connecticut River. The North Country is home to Mount Washington, the tallest peak in the Northeast. This area is known for its rugged natural beauty, remote wilderness, and numerous outdoor year-round recreational opportunities. The historic Appalachian Trail courses through Coös County from its origin in Georgia, yielding many thru hikers in our region.
